How does Nugent Sand sell its products to customers on-site?
Nugent Sand and Got Rocks! sell all products in bulk by weight/volume. Each product has a unique density and weight to it, but it is all based on either weight (one ton = 2,000 pounds) or volume (one cubic yard = 27 cubic feet).
Front-end wheel loaders load the bulk material onto trucks and trailers.
Got Rocks! in Louisville uses a one cubic yard (1 cu yd) bucket to load truck beds and trailers where the customer pays by the scoop and does not need to weigh-in before being loaded.
-
How much material do I need?
Use our Product Calculator to determine the quantity of material you need. As a general rule of thumb, 1 cubic yard of product covers approximately 100 square feet, 3 inches deep.
-
How much is a cubic yard?
One cubic yard measures 27 cubic feet, or 3 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. Got Rocks! in Louisville uses a one cubic yard (1 cu yd) bucket to load truck beds and trailers.
-
How much volume can my pickup truck hold?
A full size pickup holds, on average, between 2-3 cubic yards. Drivers must consider the product type and weight before loading a truck or trailer to prevent accidents. Load trucks and trailers only as intended by the manufacturer and permitted by law.
-
Why should I buy mulch and topsoil in bulk instead of in bags?
Bulk product is less expensive than mulch and soil sold in bags. Also, our product is delivered and mixed onsite daily, resulting in fresh, high quality material.
Ensure you have enough space in your driveway or yard to store the material. It is our policy to not accept partial returns for unused material.
-
How many bags of mulch are in one scoop or cubic yard of mulch?
One scoop or cubic yard of our mulch and topsoil is equal to almost 14 bags (2 cu. ft.) sold in retail stores. To cover a flower bed measure 100 sq. ft., it would take one scoop of our mulch or 13.5 bags.
-
Are there any minimum amounts?
Yes, there is a minimum transaction amount of $20, and we have a minimum product quantity of one scoop.
If you have a small area to apply landscaping material (see our Product Calculator for questions about amount per area) or if you desire multiple color options, we would be happy to recommend a local retailer that sells smaller amounts in bags.
